The 2020-21 season has already gathered steam and United, the most successful club in the league's history, is already the talk of the town. Who doesn't know that Old Trafford was hell during Sir Alex Ferguson's days? However, with the arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjær as the club manager after José Mourinho left in December 2018, things have gone from bad to worse.
The Theatre of Dreams has become the Theatre of Nightmares after 5-nil drubbing by Liverpool on October 24, 2021. Yes, not even CR7 could help after his hyped return to the club. In fact, Solskjær is facing an uphill battle to keep his job with United languishing in seventh position after 9 matches played this season.
Would anyone bet on Manchester United to finish in the top four at this point in time? Not many would. There's a reason (or perhaps reasons) why United have been overtaken by clubs like Tottenham Hotspur and Westham, not to mention the usual suspects in the top four race: Manchester City, Liverpool, and Chelsea. God forbid if Solskjær takes United down into the relegation zone after this season.
Following Liverpool's match, it is hard to bet on United for anything this season, no matter how much anyone loves sports betting. And that's why it may not be surprising to see betting platforms give United attractive odds in the near future.
Having picked just one point in their last four league matches, United's losing streak says it all. Before the unthinkable defeat to Liverpool, United suffered a surprising loss to Aston Villa and Leicester. All they could manage was a draw against Everton, a matched played Old Trafford.
With this kind of record, United's chances of ending up in the top four this season are growing slimmer by the day, and not many online sports betting enthusiast are likely to wager their money on the club to wrest a top-four spot from the likes of Tottenham, Westham, and even Arsenal.
If anyone thought that United's next fixtures are a walk in the park, they are in for a rude awakening. The next four matches are against Tottenham, Manchester City, Watford, Chelsea, and Arsenal!
While one may right off Watford, Manchester City is a force on another level, Chelsea's form has picked up following the arrival of Tuchel as manager, and Arsenal is always tough nuts to crack. Tottenham, on the other hand, is known for its never-say-die attitude. Thus, it is safe to say that it will be a miracle if Solskjær can lead United out of this situation.
So Where Does the Team Go from Here? While there is no denying that United is capable of bouncing back from this losing streak with a win against any team ahead in the rankings, it would be highly unwise to bet on United, especially in the top-four race.
This is because Solskjær has not been able to inspire his players even after bringing CR7 onboard, and that just might be a big problem for him. Perhaps if he could change tact in the next few matches, he would still have a chance.
